Interests:
My current interests are within the field of Developmental and Cell Biology. Specifically, I am interested in investigating cell cycle control proteins as affected by environmental perturbation. The primary goal of our lab is to identify and ascribe functions to the cell cycle proteins that regulate the early cleavages of purple sea urchin embryos (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) and how they are affected by ultraviolet radiation (UVR). I am using Proteomics and Immunohistochemistry to examine protein changes in embryos exposed to artificial and natural UVR at the Cal Poly Pier facility located in Avila Beach, Ca. Ultimately we hope to identify proteins that regulate the UVR-imposed stress response on developing cleavage stage embryos.
