Profiler
Cal Poly's fully automated profiling system measures salinity, temperature, and bioluminescence as a function of depth in the water column. Profiles are made every half-hour from the ocean's surface down to 1.5 m from the bottom. Each profile of the water column takes approximately 13 minutes and spans an average depth of 11 m. At the end of each cast, the profiler is returned to the surface where the sensors are rinsed with fresh water for 30 seconds. Click on the sensors to bring up a description of their function.
